Rings have a long and colorful
history. Rings have been worn for
sentimental, practical, spiritual, and adornment purposes since the beginning
of recorded history. Rings are still
popular today and can be found in every style and in every price range. Rings are fun and are available in a variety
of styles and colors that will complement every outfit. Tiny
splashes of color and beautiful designs make them a fashion statement that most women will enjoy. Women
love rings for both sentimental and decorative purposes. Most women will continue to wear at least their
engagement and wedding bands until they are thin, worn, and ill fitting. It isn’t until a lifetime of hard work and arthritic
changes make it difficult to slide rings on and off with ease, that they
reluctantly give up wearing their favorite pieces of jewelry. Do weight fluctuations and age-related
changes mean that men and women can no longer wear decorative rings?
I had given up thinking
about rings until I stumbled across an article in an old (May/June 2006) issue of
Arthritis Today Magazine (www.ArthritisToday.Org). New uses of stretchy materials are being
used to make rings and slip-on bracelets that allow people with swollen finger joints to wear jewelry.
Stretchy rings are comfortable and will expend to fit any finger size. Local craft galleries and jewelry boutiques
often carry one size fits all selections, but it will boggle your mind at what
is available on-line. Simply Google
“stretchy rings” and it will take you to multiple sites with fun offerings of
every description. Stones, crystals,
beads and pearls are strung on jewelry grade clear elastic to appeal to every
taste and pocketbook. What a lovely and
inexpensive way to add color and style to your wardrobe and let’s face it,
older women do not lose interest in their appearance.
