Is a trip to the grocery store the highlight of your week? Restrictions have lightened up in recent weeks but how safe are you? You may have noticed that there are still a few individuals who don’t really care about “your right” to be virus free.
Restaurants and grocery stores in my home town were doing really good, or so I thought, until I went into one of the large, well known, warehouse type grocery stores. They had stopped caring; the number of customers not wearing masks was appalling, and it scared me to pieces.
So, are you going to give up the one “social outlet” that you have allowed yourself? If you feel caught in the middle, you may need to rethink how you are going to do your grocery shopping.
• Shop only if you are feeling well, and have not been in contact with anyone who has been exposed to Covid-19
• Wash hands before and immediately after shopping
• Bring or use provided disinfectant wipes
• Wear a mask and avoid touching your face
• Stay at least 6 feet away from other shoppers
Grocery shopping has changed as the world reacts to the COVID-19 virus. As communities begin to reopen, it becomes more important than ever to protect this privilege.
• Cut down on the number of trips to the store you make each week.
• Stick with stores that are doing their best to discourage non-compliant customers.
• Shop during off-peak hours (weekday morning and early afternoons).
Still a little freaked out? Consider on-line grocery shopping. If you have access to a computer, online shopping may be right for you. There may be a small service fee but in the long run you will save money (have you ever gone to the store with a little tiny list and come out with $150 dollars’ worth of groceries?) Sure, you have.
• Plan ahead (plan your menu and check your pantry before placing your order).
• Give specific instructions to your shopper
• Decide whether to have groceries delivered or pick your order up from the store.
This isn’t over yet. It will be up to you to stay safe. Bon Appetit!
