In the chaotic world that we are living in, it may feel like there are more bad days than good ones. You may even bristle when a stranger has the audacity to wish you a “good day.” What do they know, you grumble sadistically. You got up on the wrong side of the bed and things have gone from bad to worse ever since.
Still, it is a hopeful expression of thoughtfulness, even kindness, and it should be accepted as such. The very least you can do is respect the intention and acknowledge the sentiment.
Granted, spilling your coffee, breaking your favorite cup, or forgetting where you left your car keys does not bode well, but moments of chaos do and will happen. The trick is not allowing them to ruin your day.
Granted, some people are more positive than others; you might even wonder what their secret is. They seem to know instinctively that spilling coffee or breaking a cup is not the end of the world.
Give yourself a break. Reward yourself. It doesn’t have to be a huge reward, just something simple. Take a break with a cup of good coffee, kick off your shoes, wiggle your toes, read a chapter in a good book, meditate, or anything else that gives you a boost.
Count your blessings instead of your woes. Blessings count, even the little ones. Give thanks that you have a roof over your head, food on your table, a hot shower, drinkable water, and a caramel macchiato Not everyone is so lucky.
Get enough rest and for heaven’s sake stop rushing around. Anticipate a good day and you will be more likely to have one. Get up a few minutes early and factor some alone time into your schedule. Do not, under any circumstances, yell at anyone first thing in the morning. Seriously, it will ruin your day as well as theirs.
Make every day a good day. Think hard about what you can do to make today a better day than yesterday. Every day, after all, has the potential of being a good day. Try not to screw it up.
