In order to recognize adverse symptoms before they hit you between the eyes, you need to come to terms with what is “normal” for you. Ageing happens. Ageing is normal. It starts when you are born and is progressive; it isn’t something that sneaks up on you when you aren’t looking.
You didn’t worry about ageing when you were young because you were always in a hurry to reach the next milestone. Life was full of firsts. You spent the first half of your life waiting to be “old enough,” and the second half worrying about being “too old.”
The good news is that if you are mindful and take care of yourself, you can hold on to precious moments a little bit longer. Research and modern medicine can help you live longer, but there are no guarantees. The trick is to slow down and do the work because you want to, not because you have to.
Slowing down is a reality. Your reality hinges on whether you slow down because you know it is a better way to live, or because self-neglect and apathy force it on you.
Do the work. Don’t wait until there is something wrong before seeking professional advice. Insurance companies expect you to see your Doctor regularly for wellness examinations. A wellness examination might include dietary consultations, support groups, and evaluations by physical and mental health specialists.
You don’t have to do everything alone. Wellness is a wonderful thing, and you will soon learn that wellness is about more than popping a handful of pills.
Accept that a certain amount of deterioration is inevitable. Gray hair gray, crow’s feet, dry skin, vision and hearing changes, aches and pains, and decreased stamina happen.
It is human nature to want a quick fix, and a little repair work can be beneficial, but be sure you are doing it for the right reasons. If you sense that you are “slowing down” too much, it may not be too late to get help. The human body is amazingly resilient.
