Reviewing products and ideas to make independent living safer and easier.

You would think “loving your life” would be a given, but it isn’t necessarily so. Seniors, like everyone else, still have a few things to learn.  Don’t let stereotypical images about grumpy old men/women color the way you look at the world.

Time. Love. Life. All intertwined. Look at time for instance. Twenty years seems an eternity to a ten-year-old dreaming about being twenty, but to a sixty-year-old “not dreaming” about turning eighty, it is a different story.

It happens so quickly. Too quickly. Time, instead of slowing down, seems to speed up as the years go by.  Remember the expression “stop the world, I want to get off”?  It was funny then, but not so funny now. You may want time to slow down, but you have reservations about “getting off.”

You can’t stop time, but you can make every minute count. You can
“learn” to love your life. Learning is the operative word. Do not waste time feeling angry and resentful.

Enjoy the day. Embrace the time you have left. Wake up with a smile.   Gently stretch that aching body and ease slowly into the day. Count your blessings. Feel good. You are still here.

Try some new routines. Think of something you really enjoy. It can be as simple as having a cup of coffee before you get moving. Plan your day, not just boring must-do stuff, but things that will truly give you joy.  You might have lunch with a friend, walk your dog, or work in your garden.  No hurry. Slow and easy.

Think of new lifestyle commitments as commonsense approaches to independent living. There are plenty of perks. You don’t have to go to work (it doesn’t get much better than that), and Researchers have finally figured out that things you hated the most were not good for you anyway.  Of course I am talking about drastic food cutting and scale watching (also known as forever dieting), and don’t forget that coffee, eggs, chocolate are all in favor again.  Life is good.

You may actually like “feeling good.”  Be kind to yourself and learn to love the life you are in.
